Probe Data and Trips Analytics Leveraged for P3 Initiatives

CATT Lab researchers along with UMD's Professor Lei Zhang have partnered with the Maryland DOT Office of Research and Public-Private Partnership (P3) Office to analyze and evaluate how the P3 initiative might impact traffic flow during evacuations and other scenarios.

CATT Lab’s Probe Data Analytics (PDA) Suite and Trip Analytics (TA) Suite were used to analyze:
  1. Discover and rank the present-day bottlenecks in the study region using the PDA Bottleneck Ranking Tool
  2. Estimate the delay costs at these bottlenecks using the PDA User Delay Cost Tool
  3. Examine traveler behavior patterns in the study area using the TA Segment Analysis Tool

These results were then compared to modeled conditions under the proposed managed lane scenarios to estimate the mobility benefits to the region.

In addition to Maryland, Texas, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York City are also utilizing these tools for operational and planning applications. To learn more about these tools and how you can leverage them for other projects in the state, please contact Greg Jordan at gjordan1@umd.edu.
