The Maryland Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention recently awarded the sheriff’s office of Garrett County a grant to help fund the purchase of laptops and the usage of the University of Maryland’s Capitol Wireless Information Net (CapWIN). Garrett county sheriff Sergeant Rob Corley boasts to the Cumberland Times-News how happy he is to finally have this service available to his fellow sheriffs.

As part of the University of Maryland’s Center for Advanced Transportation Technology, CapWIN is a partnership between the State of Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the District of Columbia to develop an interoperable first responder data communication and information sharing network.
