This class will be held at the MD T2 Center in College Park, Maryland. This workshop provides an overview of the legal duties and responsibilities of roadway personnel. Key legal concepts relating to the liability of roadway agencies are reviewed from a risk management standpoint. Common types of claims/lawsuits brought against street departments and highway agencies are identified through examples/case studies. This workshop provides current information on the design, operation and maintenance of successful pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Emphasis is placed on making participants aware of the characteristics and needs of pedestrians and bicyclists and on the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to planning and implementing pedestrian and bicycle programs.
